2022 Scholarship Student Workshop
Love Beyond the Orphanage hosted its inaugural workshop weekend for our scholarship students. All but two of our scholarship students attended the event. The venue was a large home located on a hillside of Gapyeong City. The objective of this workshop was to provide students with practical life skills, including meal preparation, personal finance instruction, wise shopping and banking practices, and effective communication skills. While these classes seemed like crash courses, the feedback from the students was very positive and encouraging. Most importantly, we had a chance to get to know the students as individuals, and the trip provided students the chance to build friendships with one another. We were also fortunate to avoid rain and the typical seasonal hot and humid weather! We gave each student a cooking set to encourage them to cook meals at home rather than relying on take-out orders.
I would like to recognize three very special instructors who spent many hours travelling to the venue to share their knowledge. Thank you Mrs. Lim Mi-ok, a cooking instructor, Professor Jung Uoon-young, a personal finance instructor, and Professor Kim Nan-yae, a personal communication instructor. Our students gained practical information from these teachers which will enhance their daily life.
Also, we express our deep appreciation to our volunteers, John Oh, Grace, Lora, Zoe, and Kay, and Jae-hwa for the devotion, kitchen duties, capturing events on film, barbecuing steaks, chauffeuring, and ensuring a safe and fun experience. Our devoted volunteers were the backbone of this successful event. I would also like to thank our many amazing supporters, especially an anonymous supporter who specifically underwrote the expense of this event.
