Seoul Sisters Event (First wave Adoptees): April 22, 2023
This was a very special day for everyone! Eighteen aged-out adults participated in one of the most unique events we’ve ever held. This was a one-day event, where each aged-out adult was paired with older 2-3 adoptees (all 50 years old and older) who were visiting their homeland. While communication was challenging, many adoptees were thankful to have the Papago App to help speak to these young adults and learn about their lives. The itinerary included a cruise on the Han River, a BBQ lunch, shopping, attending the Painters show, and ended at the shopping district of Myeong-dong. One of the adoptees, Kristi wrote, “Experiences such as these are always good to help us keep things in perspective and to be grateful for what we have. Kang-hee didn’t want our pity, but rather to just spend time with people who sincerely took an interest in her, even if it was for only a day. We were very happy to have been chosen to be her friends.” And, one of the aged-out adults express her amazement of how total strangers could show so much kindness and spend an entire day with them, and bring gifts too! It was a day where these aged-out adults felt validated and spoiled with gifts, hugs, and shared meals! Thank you to these amazing Seoul Sisters for their kindness.
